Ilyumzhinov: "I expected that Kasparov would attempt to destabilize the elections"

– Garry Kasparov attempted to destabilize the elections. Did you expect such a move from him?

– Of course, but I answered with my serenity, regulations of the General Assembly and the law. Kasparov tried to create a conflict; however, he understood everything and admitted that there would be elections. I emphasize that General Assembly session was open to observers – journalists and you witnessed everything yourself as well.

– Has Karpov accepted your proposal to become FIDE Vice President?

– I would be glad if he does. In his turn he promised to think it over…

Ilyumzhinov & Danailov win the elections in Khanty-Mansiysk

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov will remain FIDE President for another term, until 2014. His ticket won 95 votes in the General Assembly, as opposed to 55 in favour of Anatoly Karpov.

The new/old administration will be headed by:
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov (Russia), President
Georgios Makropoulos (Greece), Deputy President
Lewis Ncube (Zambia), Vice President
Beatriz Marinello (Chile/Brazil), Vice President
Ignatius Leong (Singapore), General Secretary
Nigel Freeman (Bermuda), Treasurer

It is obvious that Anatoly Karpov made a huge blunder right in the beginning, when he allowed his former bitter opponent Garry Kasparov, and the related bunch of ghostwriters, to dictate the tone of the campaign.

The Karpov 2010 Inc. announcements and PR were packed with overstated accusations and negativity, bordering with plain rudeness.

Perhaps Karpov should accept the offer to become FIDE Vice-President, distant himself from Kasparov, and use the position to control FIDE affairs and supposed "corruption".

Somewhat surprisingly, Silvio Danailov, manager and organizer from Bulgaria, won the race for the post of European Chess Union President.

It was estimated that Von Weizsäcker, having been aligned with Karpov team, held a small advantage ahead of the other two candidates, but the scandal with Arkadij Naiditsch obviously destroyed the entire German ticket.

In the second round of voting Silvio Danailov received 30 votes, while 24 votes were entrusted to Ali Nihat Yazici.

The new ECU administration:
President – Silvio Danailov (Bulgaria)
Deputy President – Tomasz Sielicki (Poland)
Vice President – Ion-Serban Dobronauteanu (Romania)
Secretary General – Sava Stoisavljevic (Serbia)
Treasurer – Almog Burstein (Israel)

CAS Ruled Against Karpov

Court of arbitration for sport (CAS) issued its decision in the arbitration opposing FIDE to Karpov 2010 Inc. and to five national federations (Federation Française Des Echecs, Deutscher Schachbund, Schweizerischer Schachbund, Federatsiya Shakiv Ukrainy and United States Chess Federation). It has dismissed the case of Anatoly Karpov and has confirmed Kirsan Ilyumzhinov's candidature for FIDE President is valid.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed Karpov's Claims

Karpov website laments over "vague regulations":
"The court case brought by five national federations against Kirsan Ilyumzhinov’s FIDE to contest the legitimacy of his ticket’s nominations has failed to bring the desired result of forcing Kirsan to follow the rules." - Court Case to Force Fair Play Fails

CNC under loupe

Terms of the CNC contract have not been made available, though an earlier draft said that CNC would have exclusive marketing rights to FIDE events for the next four years. The draft also said that FIDE would receive at least $100,000 for those rights in the first year and at least $300,000 thereafter.

So who, or what is CNC? The company’s Web site contains no information about its history, and does not have an address, a phone number or an e-mail contact.

"Karpov will be his puppet"

"Representatives of Ilyumzhinov did everything to delay the consideration of this request, but the Court in Lausanne decided to hear the case and announced that they would will decide about the request next week.

This is the only chance for Karpov and Kasparov, who during a stay and lobbying in Sarajevo said – that in case of victory he would be the actual president of FIDE, and Karpov will be his puppet."
