GM Cerdas Barus wins Telin chess tournament

Grandmaster Cerdas Barus of Indonesian won the first Telin Chess International with 7.5 points in nine Swiss rounds at Graha Citra Caraka in Jakarta on Thursday.

Cerdas (2443 Elo) grabbed the title after beating his counterpart, International Master Irwanto Sadikin (2417 Elo), in the ninth round.

Cerdas, 50, a talented player with physical disabilities, said through a translator that he was happy to win the international level title since his last victory was as a gold medalist in the 35th Chess Olympiad in 2002 in Bled, Slovenia.
