Washington International Chess Tournament

The inaugural Washington International is scheduled to take place from 28th July to 1st August at Rockville Hilton in Rockville, Maryland.

The 9-round swiss tournament is open for the players rated above 2100 FIDE. The organizer provides sets, boards, and clocks, as well as free Continental breakfast for players every morning.

The prize fund is $17,000 guaranteed and the GM, IM, WGM, and WIM norms are possible.

Running concurrently with the Washington International will be the Platonov Memorial Tournament.
This is a six-player round robin tournament dedicated to the memory of GM Igor Platonov. The players planning to attend this tournament are GMs Lev Alburt, Boris Gulko, Gregory Kaidanov (all USA), Vladimir Malaniuk (Ukraine), Mikhail Gurevich (Turkey), and Adrian Mikhalchishin (Slovenia).

The tournament will coincide with the release of the new book, Platonov's Academy, by Lev Alburt and Sam Palatnik.

On July 27th there will be an opening reception and the Washington International Blitz. This tournament will be a 6-double round swiss 5/0 min t/c FIDE blitz rated tournament and is open to anyone. Prizes are 1st - $500, 2nd -$300 and 3rd - $200.
