Davis Cup: Serbia vs Australia
John Fitzgerald, Captain of the Australian team, has announced his lineup for the incoming Davis Cup tie match against Serbia. They will feature former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt (21st in the ATP Rankings), Peter Luczak (91st), Chris Guccione (95th), doubles specialist Paul Hanley and young guns Alun Jones and Greg Jones.
Serbia will be represented by Novak Djokovic, Janko Tipsarevic, Nenad Zimonjic, Viktor Troicki i Arsenije Zlatanovic. The match will take place on 21-23 September in already sold-out Belgrade Arena. The hall is accepting 20.000 viewers and Serbia chose clay as court surface.

Novak Djokovic and his family have invited 50 children from Kosovo and Metohija enclaves to be their guests during the Davis Cup tie between Australia and Serbia in Belgrade (21-23 September). Those kids are leaving in extremely hard conditions, under constant threat, and weekend in Belgrade will surely be important highlight in their life.
Day 1 update:
Novak Djokovic - Peter Luczak 3-0 (6:1, 6:4, 6:2)
Janko Tipsarevic - Lleyton Hewitt 2:3 (2:6, 6:3, 6:4, 1:6, 1:6)
Lleyton praised Janko and atmosphere in the "Arena". Djokovic asked audience for stronger support. Clay court is in awful condition, big minus.
Day 2 update:
Nenad Zimonjic/Novak Djokovic - Paul Hanley/Lleyton Hewitt 3-1 (3:6, 6:4, 6:3, 6:2)
Day 3 update:
Novak Djokovic - Chris Guccione 3:0 (6:3, 7:6, 7:6)
Serbia qualified for the World Group! Lleyton Hewitt had stomach flu and had to skip the match. Janko Tipsarevic was scheduled to play Peter Luczak in the 5th match, but since there is no need to chase the score, he might be replaced not to worsen the rib muscle injury.
Boris Pasanski - Peter Luczak 2:1 (4:6, 6:3, 6:1)
5th match is played on two won sets. Boris was very happy with his win, even if everything was decided before. We understand that Belgrade Arena saw the third-largest attendance in the Davis Cup's 108-year history. Australia took the record 28 trophies, but now is relegated from the World Group. We do hope they'll quickly bounce back.

Some didn't like it
Spanish newspaper "Marca" and some of their readers were unhappy, to put it mild, about Novak Djokovic impersonations of Rafael Nadal. A number of insulting comments towards Novak and Serbia in general have been posted, but there were few normal people seeing it as it is - funny and refreshing. Rafa and Nole are actually good friends, Rafael came to Belgrade for Novak's birthday party earlier this year.
Maria Sharapova showed how silly was their attitude. She was "victim" of the same show that featured Nadal, yet she took place in the Novak's supporters section during the finals. "She said she's going to kill me", Novak joked, "Of course she accepted it in the right way. Of course she found it funny. Not offended". Boo Marca!
Robert De Niro and his wife watched Novak's last two matches from the same section. They even participated in the cheering decoration by wearing the appropriate t-shirts. During the semifinal, box formed Serbian flag with red, blue and white shirts, with De Niro in white line.
While we are on the subject, Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic were appointed UNICEF Godwill Ambassadors.

This one is funny
Many websites and blogs have reported about the decisions of the FIDE Ethics Commission, but most of the attention was given to Veselin Topalov and Nigel Short case.
Case 1/06 was "Dimitrije Bjelica" (Complaint of Mr. Ali Nihat Yazici), and some of my favorite characters were involved. Accusation was:
- Writing various e-mails from November 2005 till July 2006, addressed both to Mr. Ali Nihat Yazici, President of the Turkish Chess Federation, and to other people and institutions, in particular to the editors of some newspapers, to have insulted and defamed Mr. Ali Nihat Yazici, damaging his honour and reputation and the reputation of the Turkish Chess Federation, calling Mr. Ali Nihat Yazici "a small dictator as Campomanes and small pawns of FIDE", "a slave of mafia from FIDE", using other insulting and damaging words and accusing him of "corruption".
- Writing these e-mails to have defamed FIDE institutions and some FIDE officers, in particular Mr. Florencio Campomanes, Mr. Boris Kutin and Mr. Vladimir Sahotic.
Facts that could constitute a violation of par. 2.2.4, 2.2.10, 2.2.11 of the FIDE Code of Ethics.
Explanation: Mr. Dimitrije Bjelica is a very appreciated person in the world of chess, both as a chess organiser and as a chess author. Of course, this does not authorize him to injure or discredit the reputation of other people, but has to be considered in his favour, as his not young age. (ha ha ha)
Punishment: The EC rules that
- in the part concerning an alleged damage to FIDE and to Mr. Florencio Campomanes, Mr. Boris Kutin and Mr. Vladimir Sahotic’s reputation, the complaint filed by Mr. Ali Nihat Yazici is not admissible nor receivable and the charge concerning the violation of art. 2.2.10 of the FIDE Code of Ethics has to be dismissed;
- Mr. Dimitrije Bjelica violated art. 2.2.4 and 2.2.11 of the FIDE Code of Ethics;
- Mr. Dimitrije Bjelica is sanctioned with a reprimand.
