For the first time ever, the Chess Center Baden-Baden (aka
Schachzentrum Baden-Baden) will host a category 19 Grandmaster
tournament, the GRENKE Chess Classic Baden-Baden.
This event will follow the tradition of great chess tournaments that the well-known South German Spa town has established over the last two centuries (first in 1870).
The tournament is scheduled for February 7th – 17th 2013. The venue will be the historical halls of Kulturhaus LA8 (house of culture) in the center of Baden-Baden. The games will start daily at 15:00 CET, the last round starts at 13:00 CET.
The participants in the double round robin will be:
- Viswanathan Anand, World Champion, 43 years, India
- Fabiano Caruana, No. 5 of the world, 20 years, Italy
- Michael Adams, No. 23 of the world, 41 years, England
- Arkadij Naiditsch, No. 37 of the world, 27 years, Germany
- Daniel Fridman, No. 78 of the world, 36 years, Germany
- Georg Meier, No. 108 of the world, 25 years, Germany
