St. Louis is home to some National Champs! Over the weekend, Webster University won the President’s Cup, also known as the Final Four of Collegiate Chess. The competition was held in Rockville, Maryland.
What makes it even more amazing is this is the first year Webster has had team. The team has been ranked #1 since August when it was formed.
Webster has eight grand masters on its team. Six of those grand masters went to the Final Four. Four of them are freshmen.
The team’s coach, Susan Polgar was named “College Chess coach of the year” at the awards ceremony Sunday.
