Armenian chess teams unhappy with treatment in Turkey

Mika-Yerevan girls' team trainer Ashot Vardpetyan talked to Armenian press:

"This year, as compared to other years, the flags of victorious countries were not raised". The coach doesn't rule out the possibility of this happening due to the fact that Armenia was one of the countries which earned a medal.

Concerning the less-successful boys' team named Bank King, Vardpetyan thinks the reason for their lack of success might have been tied to the uncomfortable situation the team faced upon arrival in Turkey. "We were all staying in five-star hotels, and the boys room didn’t correspond to this rating," he said. In his words, the organizers didn't solve this problem, and the sportsmen were transferred to another hotel. "This might in fact have influenced their playing", he added.
